
Adcock Shines at Collegiate Challenge

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) broke his own school record in the 60m hurdles as the Tigers wrapped up the Collegiate Challenge, which is the Tigers' final meet of the regular season during the indoor slate. Adcock topped his previous school-record in the preliminary heat of the 60m hurdles at 7.97 and then smashed that time in the finals after clocking in at 7.92. Adcock continued his day by winning the pole vault after clearing 4.75m (15-7), an indoor personal-best mark in the event. In all, the Tigers claimed 10 event titles on the day during what was their final tune-up before the Big 12 Championships, which will be held next weekend in Ames, Iowa.
Tiger shot putter Andy Oaker (Steelville, Mo.) also had a fine day, meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the event, tossing a season-best 18.16m (59-7). That mark ranks Oaker fifth in the Big 12 so far this season, setting him up nicely for next week's Big 12 Championships. Freshman Corey Jones (Boonville, Mo.) was second with a throw of 17.24m (56-6 ¾) while classmate Brooks Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) placed third at 16.29m (53-5 ½).
The Tigers dominated the men's weight throw as well, taking the first five spots in the event. Former Tiger Chris Rohr was the top finisher in the event as he turned in a top throw of 23.26m (76-3 ¾) while four Tigers occupied the next four sports. Chris Holly (Topeka, Kan.) was the Tigers' top finisher on the day as he tossed 17.72m (58-1 ¾) in his third attempt. Oaker tossed 16.89m (55-5) in his first attempt to take third while Tim Opfer (Higginsville, Mo.) and Jacob Bullinger (Jackson, Mo.) rounded out the top five spots with throws of 16.71m (54-10) and 16.40m (53-9 ¾), respectively.
The women also had a fine showing in the weight throw, highlighted by Melissa Coil (Clark, Mo.) who finished second with a throw of 16.96m (55-7 ¾). Cortni Ervin (Marshall, Mo.) threw 16.32m (53-6 ½) to place third overall while Laura Greenfield (Liberty, Mo.) and Megan Collins (Lee's Summit, Mo.) took fourth and fifth, respectively, with throws of 15.81m (51-10 ½) and 15.77m (51-9).
Katie Evans (Powersville, Mo.) was the women's top shot putter with a throw of 14.77m (48-5 ½) as she placed second behind former Tiger Krishna Lee, who threw 15.91m (52-2 ½). Ervin was third overall with a toss of 14.30m (46-11) while Katie Vanarsdall (Buckner, Mo.) was fourth with a throw of 13.46m (44-2).
Sophomore Leslie Farmer (Jefferson City, Mo.) clocked a personal-best time of 56.21 in the 400m dash to take home the event title, adding another highlight on the short track for the Tigers. She was the only athlete in the race to clock in at under a minute. The men also dominated the 400m dash as Ryan Blackwell (Fenton, Mo.) took first overall with a time of 49.21, his second-best clocking of the season in the event. Jerron Forte (Kansas City, Mo.) finished third in the race after being paced at 49.59. Sierra Gant (Wichita, Kan.) and Shawnte Middlebrook (Lee's Summit, Mo.) took third and fourth, respectively, in the 60m dash with times of 7.91 and 7.96 while Brian Schultz (Chesterfield, Mo.) took fifth for the men in the event with a 7.10 clocking.
The Tigers saw plenty of success in the 200m dash as well to continue the success on the short track. Gant built upon her strong performance in the 60m dash as she claimed the event title in the 200m with a time of 25.72 while the men placed three athletes in the top five of the event. Clifton Leake (Dallas, Texas) was the Tigers' top finisher as he clocked in at 22.58 to finish in third place. Schultz and Matt Pickerel (Columbia, Mo.) took fourth and fifth in the event with times of 22.60 and 22.61, respectively.
Middlebrook, was the first of the Tigers' event winners on the day as well, turning in a leap of 5.28m (17-4) in the women's long jump. Freshman Tucker Bounds (Columbia, Mo.) paced the Tiger men in the long jump, winning the event after clearing 6.92m (22-8 ½). Classmate Marcus Ferguson (Waynesville, Mo.) was third with a leap of 6.49m (22-3 ½). Evan Scott (Oak Park, Ill.) and Ferguson rounded claimed the first two spots in the men's triple jump to round out the Tigers' day in the horizontal jumps.
The Tigers also took three of the top four spots in the men's high jump as Craig Arnzen (Scott City, Mo.) and Daniel Hunter (Hallsville, Mo.) both cleared 1.93m (6-4) to take second and third, respectively. Mitch Willman (Greenville, Ill.) cleared 1.88m (6-2) to place fourth in the event. The women saw similar results in the high jump as Meaghan Brougher (Dallas, Texas) and Stacey Swineburg (Camdenton, Mo.) each cleared 1.62m (5-3 ¾) to place second and third, respectively.
In the pole vault, freshman Heather Green (Jefferson City, Mo.) was the Tiger women's top finisher after clearing 3.60m (11-9 ¾). Teammates Holly Stewart (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Abbie Garlich (Greenwood, Mo.) finished just behind her at 3.45m (11-3 ¾) and 3.30m (10-9 3.4), respectively. Aside from Adcock, fellow combined-event star Lars Rise (Trondheim, Norway) was the Tiger men's top finisher in the event with a vault of 4.60m (15-1).
In the middle-distance events, the Tiger women swept the top three spots in the 800m run as Katie Nelson (Normal, Ill.) won the event with a time of 2:19.18. Laura Brown (Ozark, Mo.) and Kelcy Vanarsdall (Buckner, Mo.) took the next two spots with times of 2:21.85 and 2:25.28, respectively. Megan Kowalik (Florissant, Mo.) clocked in at 5:15.79 to earn second place in the mile run, rounding out the women's top performances in the middle-distance events. Dan Quigley (St. Louis, Mo.) was the men's top finisher in the mile run as he was paced at 4:19.22.
