"I thought we had another strong start but we really had a letdown after the first set and I didn't think we played as well after that," head coach Wanye Kreklow. "When you play one of the top teams in the nation like Nebraska, you can't commit the type of errors that we did and expect to win. I thought we played really well and we hung with them the whole way in the first set, but I was just a little disappointed with our effort in the last two."
Aside from Ampudia, the Tiger offense struggled to stay on track as the best hitting percentage after Ampudia's .216 was .167 by senior Julianna Klein (Keota, Iowa), who finished with six kills and nine digs. Junior Brittney Brimmage (East St. Louis, Ill.) added four kills as did freshman Lisa Henning (Blue Springs, Mo.). Freshman setter Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn.) added a pair of kills while spreading 26 assists in the loss.
Senior libero Caitlyn Vann (Muncie, Ind.) led the Tiger back row by corralling 11 digs in the match while defensive specialist Priscilla Armendariz (Blue Springs, Mo.) pulled in seven more. Mizzou posted six blocks in the three sets, above its season average, as Brimmage led the way with four block assists. Catie Wilson (Omaha, Neb.) added a solo block and a block assist in the match.
Mizzou struggled to slow the Husker attack as it hit .326 on the match, highlighted by an .857 clip from middle hitter Brooke Delano. She posted 14 kills on 16 attacks without an error. Nebraska libero Kayla Barnwarth also played a fine match and pulled in 18 digs in the three sets.
Mizzou will return to action this Saturday as it travels to Oklahoma for a pivotal Big 12 showdown with the Sooners. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start and Mizzou All-Access will have the call from Norman. For all the latest on Mizzou volleyball, stay tuned to MUTigers.com.
