AMES, Iowa - Traveling for the first time in weeks, the 21st-ranked Missouri women's swimming and diving team squared off with Iowa State in Ames Saturday afternoon and came away with a 190-105 victory over the Cyclones.
Mizzou put on another dominating performance, reminiscent of the way the Tigers swam against Arkansas last week, with at least two Tigers finishing in the top two spots in nearly every event and 12 total wins.
"I knew if we could double up on points in the early races we would have a good shot of winning the meet," Missouri coach Brian Hoffer said. "It's always good to get a Big 12 win, and now we have to get back in the pool on Monday and get ready for another tough meet."
After having a stellar meet with three wins against Arkansas, Colleen Gordon had continued success against Iowa State, first taking the 200 free race in 1:49.61, giving her the second best time this year in the event and set an ISU pool record, followed by Kim Jasmer in second in 1:49.80 and Caitlin Connor in third in 1:55.54. Gordon then went on to 100 fly glory, finishing first in that race in 55.97 seconds.
Dominique Bouchard was the next Tiger to double-up on Saturday, first taking the 100 back in 55.72 seconds, besting Iowa State Nan Liu by .05 seconds. Much was the same in the 200 back, as Bouchard defeated Liu again but by a greater margin as Bouchard finished in 1:59.10 and Liu in 2:04.16.
Rachel Ripley earned her first two individual titles this season, first in winning the 100 breast in 1:04.19, then later on in winning the 200 breast in 2:20.86. She would have also taken the 200 IM towards the latter half of the meet, but with the victory already assured for the Tigers, it was swam as an exhibition.
Lisa Nathanson finished first in the 50 free, clocking in at 23.58 seconds, and then won the 100 free race in 51.59 seconds.
Stephanie Rovig kicked off the Tiger individual wins, finishing first in the 1000 free in 10:16.14, with Francie Szostak taking second in 10:24.34. Kim Jasmer also took home 500 free title, touching the pad in 4:58.76.
In the diving competition, Jordan Morcom and Tien Tran dueled for the top spots, with Morcom getting the best of Tran in the 1-meter competition with 278.55 points, while Tran finished first in the 3-meter competition.
The Missouri men and women's swimming and diving teams return to action next week in the Shamrock Invite at Notre Dame.
