COLUMBIA, Mo. - With 12 wins on the day, the 25th-ranked Missouri women's swimming and diving teams defeated No. 18 Arkansas in dominating fashion, 177 to 118 Saturday afternoon at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.
"Sometimes you never know how a meet is going to go, and when I saw how many points we had after the break, I knew we were in a very good position to succeed." Mizzou coach Brian Hoffer said.
In one of the best races of the day, the Tigers took all three top spots in the 100 back, led by Lauren Lavigna who finished first in 56 seconds. Dominique Bouchard took second in 56.12 seconds, while Cassie Cunningham finished third in 56.67 seconds.
Colleen Gordon took home the 1000 free title, clocking in at 9:54.00, besting her previous time of 10:11.44 she had in the dual against Texas.
Gordon won her very next race, taking the 200 fly title in 2:00.99, blowing away the competition that didn't even come close to her in the race by more than three seconds. That time now puts her at fifth all-time in school history.
Gordon won her third title of the day, finishing first in the 100 fly, besting SEC-leading swimmer Yi-ting Siow in 55.07 seconds.
The Tigers swept the top two spots in the 200 free, with Kim Jasmer finishing first in 1:48.67, and Francie Szostak second in 1:51.50.
Later in the day, Jasmer went on to take the 500 free title, besting Arkansas' Chelsea Franklin in 4:53.15.
Lisa Nathanson and Cassie Cunningham finished in first and second in the 50 free, with Nathanson clocking in at 22.96 seconds and Cunningham second in 24.01 seconds.
Nathanson came out of the scheduled break and won the 100 free 50.41 seconds, with Stephanie Rovig finishing second in 52.14 seconds.
Bouchard took home the 200 back title in 1:58.49, with Lavigna finishing second in 2:00.20, giving the Tigers another one-two finish.
Jordan Morcom finished first in the 1-meter dive competition, taking the top spot with 283.60 points, while Sharon Finn finished second with 251.75 points. Morcom then took the 3-meter dive as a host of Tigers held the top four spots in the event.
After overcoming a bit of a slow start, the women's 200 medley relay team stormed back to take the top spot in the race, with the team of Cunningham, McCleery, Jasmer, and Nathanson finishing in 1:42.71. .01 seconds from hitting an NCAA provisional time, and is the fourth fastest time in school history.
McCleery finished second in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:03.66, with Rachel Ripley finishing third in 1:04.11.
The finishes were reversed in the 200 breast, with Ripley finishing second in 2:17.91, while McCleery finished third in 2:18.94.
The Missouri women's swimming and diving team will head to Ames, Iowa to face-off with Iowa State next Saturday afternoon.
