COLUMBIA, Mo. - - Mizzou senior Ryan Lollis had three hits, including a home run, against Minnesota on Tuesday night at Taylor Stadium. However, the Gophers handed Missouri a 7-3 loss on in game one of a two-game midweek series.
Lollis, in the batting order in the lead off spot for the first time this season, led off Mizzou's half of the first inning by hitting his third home run of the season to give the Tigers the early 1-0 lead. He added singles in each of his next two at-bats and finished the night 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The MU lead was short-lived as Minnesota scored three times in the top of the second inning with all three runs coming on a home run by Justin Gominsky. The Gophers got another three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning from Kyle Knudson to make it a 6-1 lead.
The Tigers cut into the five-run lead by plating two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, which included a two-run single by junior Aaron Senne. Senne was 2-for-4 adding a first inning single.
After Minnesota scored one in the eighth, the Tigers loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning with one out, but two pop outs ended the inning.
Mizzou falls to 15-17 on the year, while the Gophers improve to 17-9.
Missouri and Minnesota will conclude its two-game series at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Taylor Stadium.
