KANSAS CITY, Mo. - -
A four-run bottom of the sixth inning helped Kansas take a 7-3 win over Missouri on Wednesday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City. The Tigers had built a 3-1 lead after the top of the sixth, but KU scored six unanswered runs to take the victory.
Kansas (27-14) put the first run of the game on the board in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double from Buck Afenir.
Mizzou (21-21) went ahead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, which started with junior Greg Folgia doubling, and junior Trevor Coleman drawing a walk.
Senior Kyle Mach then attempted to sacrifice the runners over with a bunt, but an error by the KU first baseman allowed Mach to reach safely and Folgia to score from second. Coleman then crossed the plate when senior Steve Gray reached on a fielders' choice to give the Tigers the lead.
Folgia picked up his second leadoff hit of the game as he singled to start the sixth. He later scored on a two-out base hit by Gray.
Folgia was 2-for-4 on the night, extending his hitting streak to six games. He has had two hits in each of the last three games.
The Jayhawks took the lead back with a four-run bottom of the sixth inning, including a three-run home run by Preston Land, which put KU in front 5-3. Kansas added a pair of runs in the eighth inning and went on to the 7-3 win.
A crowd of 4,102 was in attendance at Kauffman Stadium for the game, which will not count as a conference game. MU and KU will face off again in a three-game conference series in Columbia on May 8-10.
Mizzou will return to Taylor Stadium this weekend to host Texas Tech in a three-game series that will get underway at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
