Lubbock, Texas - Extending its win streak to nine straight games, the No. 10 Missouri softball team completed a two-game sweep of Texas Tech after winning game two, 10-3, at Rocky Johnson Field. Three Tiger pitchers combined for the win, helping Missouri to a 40-5 overall record, Missouri's fourth 40 win season in five years. Additionally, the Tigers, now leading the Big 12 Conference with a 10-2 mark, have managed their third straight season with 10 or more wins in league play.
Receiving the start in the afternoon contest was freshman Kristin Nottelmann (Fenton, Mo.). Nottelmann, now 11-1 on the year, threw four complete innings and allowed only one earned run on four hits. Senior Stacy Delany (Freeland, Mich.) pitched in relief, twirling two innings and credited with four strikeouts. Left handed junior Jana Hainey (Peculiar, Mo.) hurled the final inning and was credited with two strikeouts. Together, the trio accounted for 10 strikeouts.
Offensively, Missouri scored 10 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits and one Texas Tech error. Leadoff batter Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) reached base on balls to open the game, advancing to second on an error by the Red Raider shortstop. Taylor scored on three-hole hitter Marla Schweisberger's (Raytown, Mo.) single up the middle. Leftfielder Gina Schneider (Liberty, Mo.) scored Missouri's second run of the game, also in the first inning, on a bases loaded, one out walk. Schneider scored three of Missouri's 10 runs and hit a two run homer in the second inning to give Missouri its 4-0 lead over the Red Raiders.
The sixth game of the season in which the Tigers hit three or more home runs in a single game, Schneider hit her fifth yard ball of the campaign, a one out solo shot, in the top of the fifth inning. Prior to the 2009 campaign, Schneider had only hit one home run in her career.
Senior third baseman Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) moved to fourth on the Missouri career home run record book (25) and now leads the squad with nine homers on the campaign. Ubrun's three run, two out long ball in the fourth inning erased Texas Tech's three run rally from the bottom of the third.
Missouri will play its final six games of the regular season at home on University Field. First up for the Tigers is a Wednesday doubleheader against Iowa State followed by a weekend series against No. 15 Oklahoma.
