Columbia, Mo. - Missouri senior Micaela Minner (Sanger, Texas) was selected as the 18th overall pick at the 2009 National Pro Fastpitch College Draft by the Akron Racers as announced earlier this week. Minner, who entered her senior year with a .365 average is the first Tiger softball player in over 10 years selected in the draft.
Due to NCAA regulations, an active college senior-athlete may not sign with her respective franchise until their 2009 college season is over.
Minner is a two-time All-Midwest Region honoree as well as a three-time All-Big 12 recipient. Her .365 average stands second in the Missouri career batting average book while her career doubles (42) stands at second and home runs (32) at third. A power hitter, Minner owns a .654 slugging percentage. Minner was one of four Big 12 players selected in the draft.
National Pro Fastpitch is headquartered in Denver, Colo. The league, created to give elite female fastpitch players the opportunity to pursue a professional career in their chosen sport, has operated since 1997 under the names Women's Pro Fastpitch (WPF) and Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL).
