Mizzou Grabs 76-71 Win Over Indiana

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior Marissa Scott hit a baseline jumper and senior Toy Richbow hit two free throws in the final 13 seconds to give the University of Missouri women's basketball team a 76-71 win over the Indiana Hoosiers Sunday afternoon in Bloomington, Ind. The Tigers improve to 2-1 on the season while the Hoosiers fall to 3-1.
Trailing by seven, 60-53, with just over eight minutes left in the game, Mizzou reeled off a 10-0 run with four points apiece from senior Jessra Johnson and junior RaeShara Brown to take a 63-60 lead with 5:47 on the clock.
Both teams went back and forth over the remaining minutes, with Indiana taking a 68-67 lead after Jamie Braun made two free throws with 2:26 left. After a three-point play by Johnson, Braun struck again with a layup to retie the contest at 70-70 at the 1:55 mark.
With the Tigers up one, 72-71, Scott nailed a baseline jumper for a 74-70 Mizzou advantage with just 13 seconds on the clock. The Hoosiers missed a three-attempt in the remaining seconds and Richbow clinched the victory with two freebies.
Senior Amanda Hanneman led the Tigers with 17 points while Johnson added 16 and junior Shakara Jones scored 15. Junior RaeShara Brown posted eight points and a team high nine rebounds.
Mizzou raced out to an early 14-6 advantage less than four minutes into the contest after Hanneman made a jumper. The senior stayed hot and scored eight of Missouri's next 12 points as the the Tigers doubled up the Hooisers, 28-14, with 10:30 remaining in the first.
Indiana kicked up its offensive game and went on a 22-8 run the remained of the first. First Indiana cut Mizzou's lead to five, 32-27, after Sasha Bernard converted a three-point play with 6:14 on the clock.
After Johnson made a jumper, Indiana's Hope Elam hit a layup and the ensuing free throw for a 34-32 Tiger advantage with 5:07 remaining in the first half. The Hoosiers tied it up at 34-34 when Elam hit a layup off a Tiger turnover at the 2:25 mark then took a 37-34 lead after Elam sank a three-pointer 30 seconds later.
A jumper from sophomore BreAnna Brock with 47 seconds on the clock got the Tigers within one but Danilsa Andujar hit one of two free throws at the 27 second mark to give Indiana a 38-36 halftime
Indiana opened up a 52-43 advantage early in the second half but senior Marissa Scott nailed a three-pointer to get Mizzou back within six, 52-46, with 13:01 left in the game. Two free throws by sophomore Christine Flores and a putback by junior Jasmyn Otote put the score at 52-50 at the 10:53 mark.
Missouri then hits the road again next week for the Seminole Class in Tallahassee, Fla., Nov. 27 and 29. Mizzou will face Florida A&M at 4 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 27 before facing off with host and No. 10/13 Florida State at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, Nov. 29. The Tigers then return to Mizzou Arena for a Saturday afternoon contest with Ball State on Dec. 5 at 12:30 p.m.
