Columbia, Mo. - Playing inside the Dan Devine Pavilion, the Missouri softball team shutout its sixth opponent of the fall, Crowder College, 6-0. Sophomore pitcher Chelsea Thomas (Pleasantville, Iowa) was credited with the win after throwing five innings and striking out 12 batters. Thomas struck out the side in both the fourth and fifth innings. With the win, Thomas closed out the fall schedule with a 0.00 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 20 innings.
Senior Jana Hainey, Missouri's left handed hurler from Peculiar, Mo., closed out the game, throwing the final two innings of work and sitting down three batters by strikeout.
Missouri got on the board in the bottom of the third frame, scoring two runs on three hits. Batting ninth, junior Abby Vock (Morrison, Ill.) led off the inning with a single up the middle and stole second on right fielder Shana White's (Columbia, Mo.) second at bat of the game. White knocked a base hit up the middle to send Vock running for third base. Both runners, Vock and White, scored on third baseman Nicole Hudson's (Webb City, Mo.) triple to left center.
Junior All-American Marla Schweisberger (Raytown, Mo.) drove in two runs with her fifth inning one out yard ball over the left field fence. Schweisberger is hitting .571 on the season and owns a .786 slugging percentage. The Tiger junior finished the game 2-for-4 with one run and a team-high three RBI.
As a team, Missouri notched 10 hits and held Crowder to four.
The Tigers will play their final fall game of the campaign against Three Rivers Community College beginning at 2 p.m. (CT).
