Head Coach Mike Anderson Quotes
Missouri vs. Texas Tech
On the win against Texas Tech:
“Hats off to our guys. This is one of those games you are kind of afraid of because you are coming off a big, emotional win at Oklahoma State where you played some unbelievable ball for about 35 minutes. Let's give some credit to Texas tech, I think Coach Pat Knight has been on his guys about playing with toughness and heart, and I think that's what you saw today. They just would not go away. Our guys hung in there and found a way to win.”
On free-throw shooting and players off the bench:
“You never know, today we shot the ball well from the free-throw line. We needed them in this game in particular. I thought the effort was there. There was a lot of emotion from the other night but our guys found a way to win. I thought guys came off the bench and played well. Marcus Denmon did well and DeMarre made some big plays down the stretch and Keith Ramsey just keeps getting better and better with his defensive presence. Kim English is getting more comfortable and Miguel Paul came in and gave quality minutes.”
On the atmosphere and fan support:
“This one here was a fight. Thanks to all the fans that came out, they had a chance to see some entertaining basketball. I tell you what, our students were out in numbers, and that's a great sign. It was a sight to see and it was a great atmosphere in here. The games are all going to get tougher as we move on and we hit the road against K-State.”
Texas Tech vs. Missouri Player quotes
On game:
“We came out this time and tried to do it from the offensive end, but we really should've come out with a defensive mindset. You've got to win, that's all we worry about, and we came away with the win so we're going to get back into practice and get into our defensive mindset.”
On offensive/defensive mentalities:
“Our whole mentality is defense, so in that regard we want our defense to make our offense. We've got big guys like myself, Keith (Ramsey), Justin (Safford), and Leo (Lyons) who can run and you know, we need to fill lanes, so we like to get the ball up and down. Like coach says we like to have chaos, crazy chaos, but tonight we were making shots, we really weren't defending well, but you know, we'll pick up on that.”
On playing not to loose:
“We learned a lot, coach harped on us all week about playing not to lose. The style of basketball we play we've just got to keep attacking, so once we got into half-court, we don't want to just hold the ball like most teams, we've just got to keep scoring because when we play not to lose that's when panic come in and stuff like that.”
JT Tiller
On establishing their style:
“That's been our mentality and that's been the goal for the game is if people are going to beat us is to make them beat us at our own game. We've got to keep running because that's how we practice and that's how we're going to get our wins.”
On starting the game with pressure defensively:
“It's very important, like DeMarre (Carroll) said, our whole mentality coming into the game is a defensive approach, and that's how I get my butterflies out I play defense and just trying to get the team cranking, bringing the energy.”
On his run late in second half:
“Not really, coach always tells us if you get a good shot take it and never really told people not to take shots, so I'm always confident in my own ability and I try to knock it down.”
Streaky shooting:
“I was just getting open looks, I mean earlier in the game I know that our pressure played a big role and at the end of the game it looked like they started to get tired and we do it everyday in practice, our pace, so once its' the end of the game I started getting good looks and tried to knock them down. It wasn't so much that, earlier in the game I just wasn't taking the shots.”
