Long Falls in Round of 16 of U.S. Public Links

NORMAN, Okla. - - Mizzou golfer Jace Long's run at the United States Amateur Public Links came to an end on Thursday in the round of 16. Long began the day by picking up a win over Liam Logan, losing to Sang Yi at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.

The Long-Logan match was forced to extra holes, with Long winning match on the 19th hole to advance to the final 16.

Long's match with Yi was all square with two holes to go before Yi took the lead on the 17th hole and held on for a 1-up win.

Long, a native of Dixon, Mo., played in three tournaments last fall in his first year at Missouri. He had an 18-hole stroke average of 76.67 in the three tournaments.

He advanced to Thursday's action of the U.S. Public Links by picking up a 2-up win over Ryan Sloane in the first round of match play. Long had advanced to the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur Public Links by carding rounds of 68 and 70 in stroke play. His 140 score was second best in the field, which included over 150 golfers.
