BERKELEY, Calif. - The University of Missouri soccer team's much anticipated offense found its spark on Sunday as the Tigers downed Eastern Washington, 3-0, in a neutral site match at the University of California. Freshman Kelsey Blincow, sophomore Alysha Bonnick, and junior Kristin Andrighetto all struck in the second half to improve Missouri to 2-2-0.
Returning to action less than 24 hours after playing No. 21 Cal on Saturday, the Tigers controlled the run of play for much of the match, applying constant pressure on the Eagles goal en route to a 35-8 advantage in shots and 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
After a scoreless first half, it took just 11 minutes in the second half for Missouri to get on the scoreboard. Senior defender Kat Tarr's long range shot was blocked in the box by an Eagle defender but Blincow was the first to the loose ball, allowing her to calmly slot the match-winner into the bottom right of the net.
Eight minutes later, Andrighetto received a long throw-in by sophomore Kari Adam, turned her defender and buried the shot high to the near post. The Tigers' leading goal scorer a year ago with 14 goals, it was the Andrighetto's first goal this season.
Bonnick closed out the scoring in the 77th minute on an assist from freshman Kendra Collins. Collins flicked a well-timed through ball to Bonnick who volleyed it inside the right post.
Junior goalkeeper Tasha Dittamore, the reigning Big 12 defensive player of the week, made five saves as she earned her second shutout of the season.
The Tigers return home next weekend as they face Vanderbilt on Friday, Sept. 12th at 6:30 p.m. and Butler on Sunday, Sept. 14th at 1 p.m.
