Tigers Close Series at Kansas with Run-Rule Victory

May 11, 2008

Box Score

LAWRENCE, Kan. - - Sophomore Kyle Gibson recorded his second seven-inning complete game on the year as No. 14 Missouri picked up a 12-1 win over Kansas in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday. The game ended after seven innings due to the conference run-rule in effect for the final game of the three-game weekend series.

Gibson struck out eight, allowing just one run on five hits and moves to 8-1 on the year. He also picked up the save in Friday's series opener.

The win was the first Sunday victory for the Tigers since defeating Baylor on March 23. Ironically, the win over BU was also a seven-inning run-rule game for Mizzou.

At the plate, sophomore Trevor Coleman matched his career high in hits, runs scored and RBI, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored in the finale.

After hitting his 12th home run of the season in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, sophomore Aaron Senne hit number 13 in the first inning of game two, giving Mizzou the early 1-0 lead.

The Tigers then put together a three-run second inning, getting an RBI single from junior Kyle Mach and a bases loaded walks by sophomore Greg Folgia and Senne. Coleman led off the top of the third inning by connecting on his third home run of the season to make it a five-run advantage for MU.

Gibson was perfect through the first 3.2 innings, before John Allman doubled in the fourth. He later scored the Jayhawks lone run on double by Ryne Price.

Missouri added two runs in the fifth, with both scoring on a single by junior Steve Gray, then put five on the board in the sixth inning. The first five Tigers to bat in the sixth reached safely, including an RBI single by senior Jacob Priday and a two-run double from Coleman. Gray also had a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Kansas took game one of Sunday's doubleheader, 7-6.

The Tigers will conclude the regular season next weekend with a three-game series against Nebraska at Taylor Stadium. The series will open at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
