Clearwater, Fla. -Now on its longest win streak since the 2005 campaign, the Missouri softball team collected a 9-4 victory over Purdue improving to 18-6 on the season and 3-0 at the University of South Florida (USF) Under Armour Invitational played at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. Missouri's second game of the day, slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. (CT) against Team USA, has been cancelled due to heavy rain showers. The game will not be made up.
The Tigers scored nine runs on 14 hits to take the win over the Boilermakers. The most hits Missouri has tallied in a single game this season is 15, set Feb. 29 against South Dakota State.
Leadoff batter Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate singling in two of her first three at bats and tripling in the seventh inning. A freshman, Taylor leads the Tigers in stolen bases and added two bags against Purdue's defense to stand at 28 on the season. The Big 12 Player of the Week's 28 stolen bases places her sixth on the Missouri single season stolen bases record book and makes her the youngest Tiger to etch her name among the top-10 base stealers.
Taylor as well as junior Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) each scored three runs for Missouri with junior Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) and senior Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) each scoring twice. A total of six Tigers combined to score Missouri's nine runs. Bruck, who threw the final three innings of work against the Boilermakers and was credited with her first save of the season, recorded three RBI in the game. Her sixth inning, one out single to left field pushed across Missouri's seventh and eighth runs of the afternoon.
Ubrun, who owns a 1.250 slugging percentage at the four-day tournament, reached base on balls twice in the game against Puddue and singled in two of her at bats.
Junior Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) took the win against Purdue and now stands at 8-2 on the year. Delaney is now 2-0 at the USF Under Armour Invitational and has stuck out 11 batters in 11 innings of work.
Missouri now owns a 10-game win streak that dates back to the Tigers', 10-0 win in five innings over Saint Louis, Feb. 27. This marks the longest Tiger win streak since Missouri strung together 17 victories in 2005.
The Tigers will take on Villanova in a single game set for Saturday, March 8 beginning at Noon (CT). Missouri's final game of the tournament is set for Sunday, March 9 at 10 a.m. (CT) against Long Island. Bracket play, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been cancelled due to rain.
