Mizzou Basketball Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Mike Anderson Quotes
Opening statement: First I want to say, give credit to our guys. Our guys showed up to play an excellent game from start to finish. It seemed like there was an energy in the building. We got off to a quick start in the first half and then we came out at halftime with even more energy. I though our defense was big in this game. On chemistry of the team: I think these guys enjoy playing with each other. They understand what we are trying to accomplish and I think a lot of credit goes to our seniors. It's very evident out there with Leo, DeMarre, and even Matt Lawrence. And of course you have guys like JT Tiller who's such an energy guy. A big key in this game Zaire Taylor I thought he made them work for everything. I thought he was a big key to this game and I have to say good job. Our bench continues to develop. We have a pretty good chance to have a pretty good basketball team. They enjoy one another. We recruited some guys that are used to winning. Winners know what it takes so you see guys diving on the floor, you see guys taking charge, and you see guys making the extra pass. If you get guys on the same mind set, on the same page a lot of good things can happen. It all goes back to our defense. I think that's what they are believing in is our defense. Our pressure really affected California today. On how aggressive the team has been so far this season: Well I thought they just set the tone. We played California last year and I thought they did that to us. So we wanted to take the fight to them. We set the stage early on in the game. I think the way we play we should be attacking. We weren't shooting the ball well we were 1 for 12 in the first half. So that means there's going to be a lot of rebounds. We were able to use our quickness. I think were are a much quicker team.
Mizzou Player Quotes:
On getting hot from three-point range:
"It started on the defensive end. My teammates saw I was hot and they kept on finding me. Shots were falling and that's pretty much it. It started on defense."
On playing with a chip on their shoulders:
"It's not against Cal, per se. Marcus and I feel like we were underrated recruits coming out of high school, so coming here, we just feel like whatever you did in high school is done with. We all start on the same level our freshman year, so it's not against Cal, but it's against whoever we play.
On looking at last year's loss to Cal:
"I just went into the game and I wanted to play. I didn't really look at the past, I just wanted to go out there and play hard. We have a different team this year so it's a breath of fresh air."
On starting off quick and defensive play:
"We got off to a fast start. I think we have the most unselfish team in the country. You have to give credit to J.T. and Zaire, they really made Randle work for anything he wanted. He came in averaging 21 and then Christopher was averaging 19. Those two did a really good job on them and then Marcus and Kim came off the bench and they did the rest."
On the rebounding margin:
"It's just mindset. When you go into the game, you either want to do or you don't. Like Coach said, rebounding is personal. We just came out tonight and we wanted to show California that we were tougher and we caught them on a bad night."
On the playing well with multiple lineups:
"Coach always tells us to take our practice to the game. We all play in different lineups during practice and we tried to carry over in our practice and it worked out well."
