Head Coach Mike Anderson Quotes
Opening Statement: “All of our guys dug deep going down the stretch, especially when the score got down to four points. Even though we went up 17 they never went away. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain so they came with everything. On our end I thought we had some mismanagement with the clock going down the stretch. We got off to a good start but that can only last so long. I was really proud that our defense stepped up. We had about four or five stops going down the stretch.” On Zaire Taylor's contributions at the end of the game:
“I thought all our guys were on the same page. They told me they were going to be ok even though they were throwing the ball everywhere. Not only Zaire's [Taylor] steal but the touches on the ball going down the stretch were huge. We continued with our pressure and I think it had a cumulative affect.”
On improvements since the Xavier game:
“I thought we made plays. Most of those plays came from our defense. They got opportunities to get the line, the same guys that played in the Xavier game, knocked down free throws. It seemed going down the stretch we came up with every loose ball. That's what good teams do.”
On Lyons and Carroll being slowed down:
“I thought we did it ourselves. Some plays it seemed like we were out of synch. Even though they [Carroll & Lyons] caught the ball down low, they were stripping the ball. I thought it was a physical game so when that takes place they should step up to the plate.”
Mizzou Basketball Player Quotes
Zaire Taylor
On the fans:
"It seemed like it really filled up. I noticed it right away when we came out today. It was exciting. It was what we came here for. It felt pretty good and we're glad to know that we have thousands of people behind us watching."
On the three-point play to extend the lead at the end of the game:
"It felt good, the adrenaline started pumping and we continued to make more plays. It's a good feeling knowing that we got the stops that we needed."
DeMarre Carroll
On Murray State's play:
"Give credit to Murray State. They came out and left it all out on the floor. We came out a little flat. We made up for it at the end and got some key stops, and that's what great teams try to do."
On free-throw shooting:
"Like I said, it's personal. You have to get up and make your free throws. The pressure is going to be on you, but you still have to make the free-throws. That's what coach's trying to preach, you have to take it personal. You have to get that mentality and try to knock them down."
On turnovers:
"Like I said before, give Murray State credit. They came out and played hard. I think a lot of them were unforced errors, we were trying to make the home-run plays instead of making the simple plays. That's something that we have to learn from. It's better that we learn now than later in the season."
Matt Lawrence
On Leo Lyons and DeMarre Carroll finding him for open shots:
"That's how I get a lot of my shots. When you have two guys out there that are having the great season that they are having like DeMarre and Leo, a lot of my shots come off inside-out passing and my guy going to double-team. It seemed that every time we passed in the post, they were double teaming and DeMarre and Leo did a good job of finding me early on and in the second half. It's good to know that you have guys who are so offensively gifted that can also find the open man."
On The Fans:
"I just want to say something about the student section. I really appreciate how many of them came out. They were vocal and did a great job for us tonight, thanks."
