Albuquerque, N.M. – The Missouri tennis team continued their fall season in Albuquerque at the New Mexico Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico. Play began at 9 a.m. this morning and included one round of singles. Saturday's (Oct. 18) matches determined who would move on to Sunday's (Oct. 19) championship matches in each flight. Three Tigers will appear in the championship of their respective flight, Mallory Weber, Sofia Ayala and Kaitlyn Ritchie.
In Singles Flight A Jessica Giuggioli and Jamie Mera represented Missouri. Giuggioli faced Northern Arizona's Edit Suhajda. This was the second meeting between the pair of the fall season. Giuggioli took the first match earlier this fall, but Suhajda would earn the win Saturday, 6-3, 6-2.
The Singles Flight B champion will surely be a Tiger as both Weber and Ayala earned wins today to put them into tomorrow's championship match. Weber handled Liza Wischer of Iowa State, 6-0, 6-2, to advance. In three sets Ayala earned a win over Anya Villanueva-Forte, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 and will play in the title match.
Kaitlyn Ritchie will also be playing for a title in the Singles Flight C bracket. Ritchie defeated Ashley Bonner of New Mexico with a 6-1, 6-1, victory and advanced to tomorrow's championship match.
The final day of competition will begin Sunday (Oct. 19) at 9 a.m. The day will feature the final matches of doubles and singles play.
