Tigers Go Undefeated In Doubles Consolations

Las Vegas, Nev. – Competition wrapped up in Las, Vegas, Nev. for the third and final day of the UNLV Invitational Sunday (Sept. 28). Play began at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning and included a day full of singles and doubles matches to determine bracket champions. The tournament was held in the Fertitta Tennis Complex and was hosted by the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Freshman Jamie Mera and junior Kaitlin Dunham both competed in the championship match in their respective flights and both faced opponents from the hosting school, UNLV. In the Flight Two final Mera faced  Katy Williams. Williams defeated Mera 6-1, 6-3. Dunham played a close first match, 6-4, but was also defeated in two sets. Both Tigers finished second in their flights.

With one more round of doubles Missouri recorded three wins from three teams. The pair of Jessica Giuggioli and Kaitlyn Ritchie fought a tight match to prevail over Illinois State's Franziska Steinhardt and Hannah Eskers, 9-7. Maureen Modesto and Sofia Ayala followed suit recording a win over Alisa Razina and Anna Maskaljun of UNLV 8-5. Missouri's third doubles win of the day would be earned by Mera and Mallory Weber. The duo defeated Leslie Vial and Edit Suhajda, 8-6.

The Missouri tennis team will be back in action next for their second home tournament of the fall season, the Mizzou Invitational II, held in the Green Tennis Center. Play will cover three days beginning Friday (Oct. 3) and continuing through Sunday (Oct. 5). The tournament will feature the Tigers along with three other nationally recognized programs.
