Mizzou Invitational Day Two Concludes

Columbia, Mo. - Day two of the Mizzou Invitational came to a close Saturday (Sept. 13) evening in the Green Tennis Center in Columbia. Play began at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Battling rain all day the women were forced to stay indoors where they completed one round of singles followed by one round of doubles and concluded with another round of singles.

Round one of singles competition featured several Mizzou women. On top of Singles Bracket A Tigers Jamie Mera and Jessica Guiggioli both earned wins that would place them head-to-head for the day's second round of singles. After two hard-fought sets senior Guiggioli advanced to tomorrow's championship match where she will face another fellow Tiger, Kaitlyn Ritchie. Ritchie earned her way to the championship match by defeating Veronica Leszayova of Drake, 7-5, 6-3 in round one and St. Louis University's Hailee Elmore, 7-5, 6-2 in round two.

Sitting atop of the doubles bracket is also a pair of Mizzou teams. Ritchie and Guiggoli defeated Julia Zubkova and Franziska Steinhardt of Illinois State, 9-8 (0) to move on to the championship round. They will face Mallory Weber and Jamie Mera who beat Drake's Leszayova and Sarah Plowman 8-3 to earn their championship spot.

Final competition play with begin Sunday (Sept. 13) at 9:00 a.m. at the Green Tennis Center. The day will begin with one round of doubles and conclude with one round of singles. Play will take place indoors and outdoors, weather permitting.
