Day One Of Mizzou Invitational Complete

Columbia, Mo. - After two rounds of doubles and one round of singles competition, day one of the Mizzou Invitational is complete. Play began at 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia.

The day began with a round of doubles competition resulting in two Tiger wins. Kaitlyn Ritchie and Jessica Guiggioli defeated Carmen Peters and Sarah Strietz of Illinois State University, 8-3. Mallory Weber and freshman Jamie Mera also carded another win for Missouri defeating Kasia Tomalak and Caitlin Boukulic of St. Louis University. The win serves as Mera's first career victory as a Tiger.

In round two of doubles play Ritchie and Guiggioli faced Casey Miller and Maureen Rielley of SLU. Ritchie and Guiggioli advanced to the third round after a 9-8 victory. Weber and Mera also saw more success as they sent Drake's Gabby Demos and Amanda Aragon to the consolation bracket with an 8-3 victory.

Each Missouri competitor won their respective singles match in two sets.

"We did what we expected to do," said Coach Blake Starkey. "Tomorrow will be the real test. I'm ready to see how our girls perform tomorrow."

Play will continue Saturday (Sept. 13) at 10:00 a.m. at the Green Tennis Center. Play will take place indoors and outdoors, weather permitting.
