Lincoln, Neb..-Playing in its final Big 12 Conference series of the 2008 campaign, the Tiger softball team suffered a 7-3 loss to Nebraska at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln, Neb. Missouri falls to 43-14 on the season and 10-6 in Big 12 games. Senior pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) was credited with the loss and moves to 16-8 on the year.
The Cornhuskers jumped out to the 1-0 lead on Crystal Carwile's first inning home run over the right field fence. Missouri pulled ahead in the third on first baseman Amanda Renth's (Mascoutah, Ill.) two RBI single that drove in freshman Abby Vock (Morrison, Ill.) and sophomore Meredith Nash (Peculiar, Mo.) from second and third respectively. With the base knock, Renth improves to 52 RBI on the season and 178 on her career, good enough for second best in the Missouri career RBI record book.
Junior Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) reached base on balls to open the inning, advancing to second on freshman Kathryn Poet's (Tujunga, Calif.) groundout to short. Nash and Poet both reached base on balls loading the bags for two-hole hitter sophomore Julie Silver (Chesterfield, Mo.). Silver singled to second base allowing Allen to score from third.
The Cornhuskers regained their lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs on four hits and one Tiger error. Senior right-handed pitcher Bruck threw her 11th complete game, but allowed Nebraska 13 hits and six earned runs for her eighth loss of the year and fourth in Big 12 play.
Missouri stranded six runners on base and combined for only five hits on the afternoon.
The Tigers and Cornhuskers will play game two of the series at Noon, Sunday, May 4.
