BOULDER, Colo. -- The University of Missouri track & field squads finished competition at the Big 12 Championships on Sunday. The Tiger men led the conference in throws points (32) on the way to an eighth-place score of 49. Colorado's men won their first conference title since 1947 with 138 points. The Tiger women placed 10th with 35 points.
Shernelle Nicholls, already an NCAA-regional qualifier in the event, scored for the second time this weekend with a fourth-place showing in the women's discus. Her best of the day went 166-6 (50.74m).
Jason Morris scored in his second event of the meet with a sixth-place showing in the men's discus. He had a best of 161-2 (49.13m) today. Morris' three points gave the Mizzou men a conference-best 32 throws points on the weekend.
Senior Trisa Nickoley took seventh in the final of the women's 800, running 2:13.33.
Senior Tipper O'Brien placed eighth in the men's 1500-meter run with a 3:57.41 clocking to become a five-time All-Big 12 performer.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team scored a season's best by three seconds in placing eighth to pick-up All-Big 12 honors for runners Keyonna Smith, Nickoley, Layne Moore, and Lana Mims.
Senior Chris Feitz notched a personal best by a foot in the men's triple jump, leaping 47-3½ (14.41m) for 15th.
The Tigers next move to the NCAA Mideast Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., May 30-31. Mizzou will also host the 5th Audrey Walton Combined Events starting this Wednesday.
A two-hour tape-delayed broadcast of the meet will air on FSN Midwest (and Kansas City) next Friday, May 23rd at 12:30 p.m., central, and Sunday, May 25th at 2:00 a.m., central.
Cantwell Wins Seventh Straight
Missouri post-collegian Christian Cantwell won his seventh-straight shot put final on Sunday, defeating a hefty field at the adidas Grand Prix in Carson, Calif. Cantwell's best measure of the day went 70-2¼ (21.39m), good enough to beat fellow American Adam Nelson by over eight inches.
