BOULDER, Colo. -- The Missouri track & field teams enjoyed nearly perfect weather to start competition at the Big 12 Championships in Boulder, Colo., Friday. Mizzou sophomore Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) leads the men's decathlon by a single point with a day-one total of 4,164 points, amassing a score that's 259 points better than any of his previous five-event tallies in marking two new decathlon school records and a meet decathlon record in the 100-meter dash. In addition, Tiger throwers jumped on the board with 18 points in the men's hammer throw.

Adcock holds a one-point lead over Kansas State freshman Rok Derzanic (4,163) as four from the conference impressively scored more than 4,000 points on the day. Tiger frosh Lars Rise is currently in fifth with a career-best day one in scoring 3,942 points.

Adcock started the day with a Big 12 meet and Missouri decathlon record clocking of 10.94. (Others posted a faster time, but were in a wind-aided section). At the long jump, Adcock added over a foot to his personal best in leaping to 23 feet, 11¾ inches (7.31m). In the shot put, Adcock claimed an outdoor personal best with a 43-5 (13.23m) mark. After a season's best leap of 6-9 (2.01m) in the high jump, Adcock ran the 400 meters in a personal best and Missouri decathlon record time of 48.03 to lead the field and jump into the overall lead.

Rise had a solid performance as well, clocking a personal best 11.35 to start the day in the 100 meters. After jumping 23-2½ in the long jump, Rise set a new meet and Missouri decathlon record in the shot with a toss of 51-6¼. With a season's best of 6-2¼ (1.89m) in the high jump and a personal best 50.54 clocking in the 400, Rise, a historically better day two competitor, placed himself in good position to strike towards the top in what could be a five-man horse race tomorrow.

Nebraska's Skyler Reising posted 4,117 points on day one to stand third, while 2006 Big 12 Champ Donovan Kilmartin of Texas is fourth at 4,013.

It was another Missouri-deep men's hammer throw competition as the Tigers racked 18 points on the 2-3-5 finishes by Jason Morris, Tyler Dailey, and Nate Englin. Morris placed second with a 212-7 (64.80m) toss while Dailey was third improving his NCAA-regional mark with a 201-2 (61.31m) toss. Englin took fifth at 195-2 (59.49m).

In the women's hammer throw, senior Elisha Hunt filed a breakthrough in improving her all-time best by eight feet to finish fifth with a 192-11 (58.80m) marking and improve her NCAA-qualifying mark. Meanwhile, Krishna Lee took sixth at 183-6 (55.93m) and senior Sarah Burbee improved her all-time best by eight feet to gain entry into the NCAA Mideast Regional with an eighth-place finish that measured 179-4 (54.66m).

Freshman Kinsey Farren earned her first All-Big 12 track & field honor in placing sixth in the women's 10,000-meter run with a 37:10.66 time. Junior Garett Jeffries finished seventh in the men's race, coming from ninth in the final lap to nip Kansas' Paul Hefferon by three-hundredths of a second in running 31:15.81.

In the women's javelin, another Tiger freshman, Hope Harris earned her first career all-conference honor in placing eighth with a throw near her PR of 151-8 (46.23m).

After two events in the men's competition, the Tigers stand second with 20 points, trailing only Colorado who bundled 33 points in sweeping the first five spots in the 10,000.

Events tomorrow begin at 10 a.m., mountain.
