Ames, Iowa-Collecting its 11th sweep of the season and fourth of a Big 12 opponent, the Missouri softball team held Iowa State to only one run in the doubleheader played at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Ames, Iowa. The Tigers improve to 42-13 overall and 9-5 in the Conference after run-ruling the Cyclones 12-1 in five innings and blanking ISU, 6-0 in game two.
The nation's leader in stolen bases, freshman Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) tied the Big 12 record at 51 bags in game two of the afternoon series. A perfect 3-of-3, Taylor had back-to-back steals in the first inning, reaching first on a single to short before stealing second and third. Taylor stands tied with Oklahoma State's Shanel Scott who set the record as a senior in 2007.
Senior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) tied the Missouri single season home run record at 17 upon crushing the ball over the left field fence in game two. Tied with teammate Micaela Minner, who set the mark at 17 in 2005, Renth finished the day 5-for-7 with two home runs and five RBI.
Eight Tigers combined for 14 hits in Missouri's game one, 12-1 win in five innings over the Cyclones. Three Tigers, Renth, junior Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) and freshman Abby Vock (Morrison, Ill.) hit home runs in the first game of the doubleheader, accounting for seven of Missouri's 12 runs.
Ubrun's first inning, two run crush broke up a seven-game drought in which the Tiger failed to hit a homer and moves her to fifth in the Missouri single season home run record book with 15. In one powerful swing, Renth, the league leader in home runs, pulled ahead of Ubrun by hitting her 16th bomb of the season in the top of the third frame.
Batting in the nine-hole, shortstop Vock hit her second home run of the season in the fourth frame. Freshman Shana White (Columbia, Mo.) led off the inning with a slap-single to third base and scored on Vock's home run to left center.
All but one of Missouri's 12 runs in game one came across earned. Only Taylor's third inning run was marked as unearned after the Tiger reached first on a single and second on a fielding error in which Cyclone shortstop Carrie Monroe attempted to tag Taylor out on the steal.
Senior Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) improved to 15-7 on the season after throwing four complete innings and holding ISU to only one unearned run on two hits. Left-handed hurler Jana Hainey (Raymore, Mo.) entered the game in the fifth frame facing four batters and striking out two.
Junior Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) threw a five inning perfect game before allowing the Cyclones two hits in the bottom of the sixth. Delaney managed her way out of the inning forcing a lineout and pop out to shortstop Vock. Striking out eight of the 25 batters she faced, Delaney recorded five three-up-three-down innings.
