Columbia, Mo.-Sophomore Meredith Nash's (Peculiar, Mo.) sixth inning double to left field lifted the Missouri softball team (36-12, 3-4) past Texas Tech (13-30, 6-4), 5-3, in game one of the two-game conference series played on University Field. Snow flurries fell for most of the game in which senior Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) collected her 11th win of the campaign. Junior Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) picked up the save, her first of the season, after entering the game in relief in the seventh with a lead of only two runs.
Senior Amanda Renth's (Mascoutah, Ill.) solo home run in the bottom of the second was the lone run of the game through three innings. Her 12th home run of the season and her fourth yard ball in four games, Renth now stands second in the Missouri career home run record book with 35.
Texas Tech pulled ahead in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs, one earned, on one hit and one Tiger error. Bruck, who gave up only five hits in the game, allowed only two earned runs, the second recorded in the sixth on rightfielder Montana Patin's leadoff home run.
The Tigers tied the game at two in the bottom of the fifth when freshman leadoff batter Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by first baseman Renth. Renth, who now has 37 RBI on the season, finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Down 3-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, junior designated player Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) led off the inning with a single to left field sending redshirt sophomore Gina Schneider (Liberty, Mo.) in to pinch run from first. Schneider advanced to third on junior Andee Allen's (Barnhart, Mo.) double down the right field line. With one out on the board, Nash stepped up to the plate and smacked a double, her first of the season, down to left field pushing across two runs. Nash advanced home from second on freshman Abby Vock's (Morrison, Ill.) single to right center.
Game two between Missouri and Texas Tech will begin Sunday, April 13 at Noon on University Field.
