Tiger Softball Team Splits With Bradley

Columbia, Mo. - Suffering their first loss in 19-straight games, the Missouri softball team (28-7) dropped a one run, 5-4, loss to Bradley in game one of the afternoon doubleheader played on University Field, but rebounded with a game two, 6-0, shutout thrown by Tiger Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.). Bruck was credited with the win and improves to 6-3 on the season, while junior pitcher Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) was saddled with the loss and falls to 11-3.

Recording a solid day at the plate, Bruck put Missouri back in game one after erasing Bradley's first-inning one run advantage with her ninth home run of the season, hit in the bottom of the third. Bradley was quick to counter, scoring a single run in both the fourth and fifth innings, while the Tigers were only able to manage two runs in the fifth and one run in the seventh. Missouri pulled even with Bradley for the second time of the game on freshman Rhea Taylor's (Buford, Ga.) two-RBI double in the fifth, but was unable to string together enough hits to drive in runners on second and third in the last frame of action. By the end of the game, Missouri had left six runners on base.

Despite the loss, Delaney managed seven strike outs in 5.1 innings of work. Sophomore Jana Hainey (Raymore, Mo.) entered the game in relief and held the Braves to one hit, while striking out two of the seven batters she faced.

Missouri shut out its eighth opponent of the season and Bruck held the Braves to only two hits in the second game of the two-game series. Four of Missouri's runs were earned, while two were unearned due to errors by Bradley's catcher and third baseman in the second and fifth innings, respectively. Senior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) and sophomore Julie Silver (Chesterfield, Mo,) each were credited with two RBI. Renth ripped a fifth inning double to drive in Missouri's second and third runs of the game, while Silver's sixth inning, two RBI single, helped seal the Tiger's victory.

The Tigers will open Big 12 play, Friday, March 21, at 5:30 p.m. (CT) when Missouri hosts Oklahoma State in a two-game series on University Field.
