Columbia, Mo.,-The Missouri softball team (25-6) tied its longest win streak since the 2005 campaign, 17, after run-ruling North Dakota State (22-10), 9-1, in game four of the Mizzou Classic played indoors at Dan Devine Pavilion. The remaining two games of the day have been cancelled/rescheduled for Sunday, March 16. North Dakota State and Wisconsin will play at 9 a.m. (CT), while Missouri and North Dakota State will meet at 11 a.m. (CT) on University Field. The Tigers and Badgers will play their final game of the tournament beginning at 1 p.m. (CT). All of Sunday's games will be played on University Field.
Holding the Bison to only three hits on the day, sophomore lefty Jana Hainey (Ramore, Mo.) threw a five inning complete game to collect her ninth win of the season. Hainey mowed down five North Dakota State batters and forced six ground outs and four fly outs to end the game. North Dakota State's sole run came from a fifth inning in-the-park home run.
Missouri went to work early, scoring five runs in the first inning. Freshman Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) reached base for the 47th time of the season from the leadoff position and scored on sophomore left fielder Julie Silver's (Chesterfield, Mo.) double to center field. Taylor finished the game, 3-for-3 with back-to-back singles and a double, all down the left field line and scored three of Missouri's nine runs. Silver, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by junior Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) and scored on right fielder Kathryn Poet's (Tujunga, Calif.) single to center. Poet has been credited with 16 RBI this season. Junior Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) was next to the plate and reached base on balls. Two throwing errors on one play drove in Poet, Allen and designated player Jen Bruck, who singled and scored on the errors.
The Tigers tacked on two runs in the second and two in the third to shut down the Bison defense.
