Tiger Softball Team Takes Two Wins In Day One of Mizzou Classic

Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri softball team (24-6) extended its win streak to 16 straight games after besting North Dakota State and Wisconsin by scores of 6-3 and 10-2 in day one of the Mizzou Classic played on University Field. The run rule win over Wisconsin marked Missouri's second game in two days to end in six innings.

Totaling 13 hits on the day, three Tigers, senior Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.), freshman Megan Christopher (Wright City, Mo.) and senior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.) hit home runs, with Renth crushing two. Renth has hit six home runs this season and owns a .630 slugging percentage.

Taking on the Bison of North Dakota State in game one, Missouri scored five of its six runs in the top of the fourth inning. Batting cleanup, Renth led off the inning with a solo shot over the centerfield wall and Bruck followed with a three-run homer hitting from the seven hole. Bruck's eighth home run of the season drove in runners from first and second.

Hurling against North Dakota State in game one, Bruck moved to 6-3 on the season after throwing her sixth complete game of the 2008 campaign. Bruck struck out two batters and forced 15 ground outs and four fly outs to hold the Bison to a .167 average. The Tiger allowed only three Bison runs, one earned, on four hits.

Junior Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) threw six innings, her ninth complete game, in Missouri's second game of the day, against Wisconsin. Delaney struck out seven batters bringing her season total to 87 and her win-loss record to 10-2.

Renth's second home run of the day, a two out crush over the center field wall, drove in leadoff batter Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) from second base in the bottom of the first frame. Taylor reached base on balls to begin the inning and stole second, her 30th steal of the season.

The Tigers scored four runs in the second, all unearned, two in the fifth and a two in the sixth to end the game in six innings.

Missouri will play its third game of the Mizzou Classic, Saturday, March 15 at 1 p.m. (CT) against North Dakota State. The Tigers will play two games on Saturday, with the second against Wisconsin slated to begin at 3:15 p.m. (CT).
