FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Members of the University of Missouri track & field teams competed Friday in the first of two days of the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Among day-one highlights was sophomore Nick Adcock's first day in which he tied an NCAA-meet record in clearing 6-9¾ (2.08m) in the high jump portion of the men's heptathlon. Also today, senior Trisa Nickoley qualified for tomorrow's final of the women's 800-meter run.

Adcock (Kansas City, Mo./Oak Park HS) stands in third place overall in the heptathlon with a day-one score of 3,195 which is 70 points from the leader, Gonzalo Barroilhet, a freshman, from Florida State. Tennessee's Jangy Addy is second at 3,223 points and places three through 10 are only separated by 93 points, with K-State's frosh Rok Derzanic standing sixth at 3,126.

Adcock, the Big 12 Champion, had a solid day all around. No personal bests on the day, but all four event marks were within a comfortable margin from his all-around best that was posted in winning the Big 12 Indoor Championship two weeks ago. Adcock started the day with a 7.14 clocking in the 60-meter, just five hundredths of a second from his PR. Consistency continued for Adcock as his marks of 22-3¾ (6.80m) and 45-4¼ (13.82m) in the long jump and shot put, respectively, gave him a boost to the top five.

Once again Adcock showed might in the high jump. Adcock cleared seven heights on the way to a tied-meet best and a tied-NCAA meet record for a high jump portion of the heptathlon with a final clearance of 6 feet, 9¾ inches (2.08m). The 878 points gained in the event advanced Adcock to the third overall position in the competition.

Tomorrow, Adcock will compete in the final three events of the heptathlon: the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000-meter run.

Senior Trisa Nickoley (Tecumseh, Kan.) qualified for tomorrow's final of the women's 800 with a qualifying time of 2:06.89 to place fourth in the fastest of two heats.

Senior Elisha Hunt (Linn, Mo.) placed 11th in the women's weight throw this afternoon, posting a throw of 64-9¼ (19.74m). Senior Nate Englin (Mounds View, Minn.), who was notified of his entry three-and-a-half hours before his event, placed 12th in throwing 57-8¼ (17.58m).

Along with Adcock's final day of the heptathlon and Nickoley's running in the final of the women's 800 tomorrow, men's weight throwers Chris Rohr and Tyler Dailey will take to the ring, as well as Krishna Lee and Shernelle Nicholls in the women's shot put.
