KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Texas A&M Aggies used a strong second half to pick up a 65-39 win over the Missouri women's basketball team in the quarterfinals of the 2008 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City, Mo.
Junior Alyssa Hollins lead Mizzou with 11 points.
A 7-0 run by the Tigers on baskets from Johnson, Hollins and two free throws from sophomore Amanda Hanneman tied the game at 13-13 with 10:54 remaining in the first. The Aggies countered with a 12-3 run of their own over the next 7:55 to open a nine point advantage, 25-16, at the 2:59 on the clock.
Tough defense by sophomore Toy Richbow forced Aggie Takia Sparks into a travel to give Mizzou a chance to but into the 29-22 Texas A&M lead with 4.9 seconds remaining in the half but Missouri failed to get a shot off and entered the break down seven.
The Aggies opened the second half outscoring the Tigers 15-4 in the first 7:11 to go up 44-26, their largest lead to that point. Texas A&M continued its strong play to outscore Mizzou 36-17 in the second half for the 65-37 final.
Sparks paced the Aggies with 18 points and nine rebounds.
Missouri ends the season 10-21 overall and 2-14 in Big 12 play.
