Clearwater, Fla. - The Missouri softball team matched its longest win streak of the 2007 season, eight games, after holding off the Mocs of UTC, 3-1, in game one of the University of South Florida (USF) Under Armour Invitational played at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. Tiger junior Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) was credited with the win, her seventh of the season, after throwing her eighth complete game and striking out 11 Mocs.
After three scoreless innings, junior Lindsey Ubrun (Riverside, Calif.) broke the drought with her fourth inning solo home run to right center. Ubrun's round-tripper was her seventh of the season and puts her two homers away from entering the Missouri single season home run record book.
The Tigers added two runs in the top of the fifth frame. Pinch running for Missouri catcher Katie Milles (St. Louis, Mo.), freshman Shana White (Columbia, Mo.) scored her sixth run of the year, reaching home safely on freshman Kathryn Poet's (Tujunga, Calif.) single to right field. Returning to the top of the order, freshman Rhea Taylor (Buford, Mo.), reached first on a fielder's choice and eventually scored from second on sophomore Julie Silver's (Chesterfield, Mo.) single up the middle.
UTC's only run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman pitcher Michelle Fuzzard hit a leadoff home run to centerfield. Delaney shut down the Mocs' offense by forcing one flyout to left field and two strikeouts swinging.
Missouri will take on Central Michigan beginning at 11 a.m. (CT).
