Albuquerque, N.M. -Resuming Friday night's rain-delayed game against No. 22 Washington, the Missouri softball team suffered its second straight loss of the Lobo Invitational, 6-0, and fell to 8-6 on the season. Washington improved to 7-5-1.
The morning game began in the bottom of the second frame with the Huskies holding a 2-0 lead. With Washington runners on second and third and one out on the board, Missouri's defense quickly ended the inning on a double play. Bailey Stenson sent a fly ball to centerfielder Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) which the freshman airmailed to Tiger catcher Katie Milles (St. Louis, Mo.) for an out at the plate.
Washington added three runs on one hit and one Tiger error to take the 5-0 lead in the bottom of the third. After leading off with a walk, Jace Williams doubled down the right field line to send Marnie Koziol to third. Lauren Greer's sacrifice drove Koziol in for Washington's third run, while an error at the wall by Tiger outfielder Julie Silver (Chesterfield, Mo.) allowed both Dani Stuart and Dru Hester to score from first and third, unearned.
Amanda Fleischman scored Washington's final run of the game in the sixth inning. The Husky scored on William's ground out to third baseman Gina Schneider (Liberty, Mo.).
Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) tripled for the second time in two games. Allen entered the 2008 campaign having hit only two triples in her career, both coming her freshman season. The Tiger junior hit .545 at the Lobo Invitational, scoring two runs and credited with two RBU. Allen's performance during the three-day stretch gave her a 1.000 slugging percentage. In addition, Allen was perfect in the field, recording nine putouts at second base and seven assists.
Missouri is set to open the home portion of its schedule Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. (CT) against in-state opponent Saint Louis.
