Joey Garrity Named to Big 12 Good Works Team

Feb. 8, 2008

COLUMBIA, Mo. - University of Missouri junior Joey Garrity, a member of the Tiger wrestling squad, was named to the Big 12 Conference Winter Sports Good Works Team by the league office on Friday. Each member institution in the conference selected one student-athlete for recognition to the team based upon their involvement in community service, good academic standing and participation in a Big 12-sponsored sport.

In addition to wrestling for the Tigers, Garrity has maintained a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average as a biology major. He has also been an active member of the Columbia community. This past year, the Orion, Ill., native volunteered to check in Special Olympics athletes at Medfest and took children fishing for Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He participated in a radio broadcast for the Children's Miracle Network as well. During his time at Mizzou, Garrity has also worked with local elementary school students, volunteered through the University's Special Education Department and cleaned out apartments in St. Louis for Katrina victims.
