Women's Basketball Falls to No. 23 Texas A&M, 62-43

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Freshman Shakara Jones hit seven of her eight shots from the floor to record 15 points but the University of Missouri women's basketball team fell to No. 23 Texas A&M 62-43 on Tuesday night in College Station, Texas.

The Aggies improve their record to 15-6 overall and 3-4 in Big 12 Conference action while the Tigers fall to 8-12 and 1-6.

Mizzou shot 50 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes, including eight points on 4-of-4 shooting from Jones, but Texas A&M built a comfortable lead on the heels of 19 Tiger turnovers.

Down 36-19 with 48 seconds to play in the first, junior K-Kay Pickens grabbed an offensive rebound and made the putback and Jones hit a basket with eight seconds on the clock to send the Tigers into the break down 36-23.

The Tigers kept the pressure on the Aggies in the second half and cut the Texas A&M lead to nine, 43-34, when freshman Jasmyn Otote drove into the lane and hit a basket with just over 11 minutes left in the game.

A 13-2 run by the Aggies over the next 6:04 increased Texas A&M's advantage to 56-36 with 5:54 remaining on the clock.

Jones paced Mizzou with 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and added three blocks. Hollins joined Jones in double figures with 12.

Takia Starks scored 18 for the Aggies while Danielle Gant had 16 and Patrice Reado recorded 11.

The Tigers return to Mizzou Arena for the first of two home contests on Sunday, Feb. 3 against Nebraska at 3 p.m. in a game that will be televised on Fox Sports. Three days later Mizzou hosts No. 10/11 Oklahoma on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. The contest with the Sooners will be aired locally on the Mizzou Sports Network.
