Columbia, Mo. - The eighth-ranked Missouri wrestling team will take on No. 15 Indiana in its first dual of the 2008 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)/Cliff Keen National Duals, Saturday, Jan. 12, beginning at 11 a.m. (CT) in the UNI Dome on the campus of Northern Iowa. Missouri's side of the Division I bracket includes teams from second-ranked Iowa and No. 4 Iowa State, while the overall competition includes 15 of the top-20 Division I programs. Missouri enters the two-day tournament as the No. 7 seed, while Penn State, who moved to No. 1 in the nation in Tuesday's USA Today/InterMat/NWCA Division I Coaches poll, was awarded the No. 1 seed.
Missouri's trip to Cedar Falls, Iowa, marks the team's fourth appearance in five years at the National Duals. Finishing as high as second on two occasions, 2004 and 2007, Missouri opens the 2008 competition with its third-highest seeding in program history. A win Saturday morning against Indiana would send the Tigers into a match against No. 2 Iowa or No. 19 Cornell at 3 p.m. (CT).
A total of 97 Division I ranked grapplers are expected to compete at the National Duals, with Missouri bringing eight Tigers ranked among the top-20 in the nation at their respective weight class. Moving up one spot to No. 2 in the nation, sophomore 165 pounder Nicholas Marable (Collierville, Tenn.) owns the highest individual ranking of Missouri's 10-man lineupo. Marable stands behind Eric Tannenbaum of Michigan, a program that received a No. 6 seeding and sits on the same side of the bracket as Missouri.
Indiana brings four ranked Hoosiers to the National Duals with Angel Escobedo ranked the highest of his teammates at No. 2 at 125 pounds.
