COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - Mizzou put up nine runs in the third inning of its series opener against Texas Tech on its way to a 10-4 victory on Friday night at Taylor Stadium. The win improves the Tigers to 29-12 on the season, matching their win total from the 2006 regular season when they finished 29-21.
MU sophomore Aaron Crow picked up his sixth win of the year, improving to 6-2. He struck out six, allowing two runs on seven hits in seven innings on the hill.
Freshman Trevor Coleman drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the first inning to plate the game's first run.
The Tigers then scored nine times in the bottom of the third inning to take a 10-1 lead. After a double by sophomore Ryan Lollis to start the third, junior Jacob Priday connected for this third home run of the season, giving Mizzou a 3-0 lead.
Missouri (29-21, 10-6 Big 12) had three doubles in the inning, getting an RBI double from sophomore Kyle Mach and a two-run double from junior Brock Bond. Bond also singled in the first and added a hit in the seventh to match a season high with three hits. He finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and scored twice.
Seven of the Tigers' 10 runs on Friday came against Texas Tech starter AJ Ramos, who was chased after 2.1 innings pitched. Trey Schurr took the mound for the final 5.2 innings and after getting out of the third, held MU in check the remainder of the game. He retired nine-straight batters at one point and allowed just three base runners over the final five innings.
Texas Tech (25-19, 7-11) scored once in the second inning on a pair of singles and added a run in the sixth when Matt Smith doubled and scored on a single by Taylor Ashby. The Red Raiders would get a pair of RBI doubles from Roger Kieschnick and Kyle Martin in the top of the ninth.
The weekend series will continue at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Taylor Stadium. Sophomore Rick Zagone is slated to pitch for the Tigers, while senior lefthander Colt Hynes is scheduled to take the hill for Texas Tech.
