Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri softball team (30-18, 6-1) split a two-game series with second-ranked Oklahoma (43-5, 8-3) at home on University Field. Coming off of a game one, 5-1, victory, Missouri suffered its first lost in eight games, 8-3, in the second game of the afternoon doubleheader.
Sooner pitchers D.J. Mathis and Lauren Eckermann contained Missouri's offense in game two, allowing the Tigers only four hits. Mathis, who started in the circle, was credited with all three of Missouri's runs, while Eckermann, who struck out three Tigers, recorded her 27th win of the season.
Junior Amanda Renth (Mascoutah, Ill.), continued her hot-hitting ways, lining a two-run single into left field to help the Tigers take and early 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Renth went 3-for-3 in game two, notching all three Missouri RBI, and was one of two Tigers to register a hit. Alli Kennewell (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was the only other Tiger with a hit, a second inning single to left field.
Freshmen Julie Silver (Chesterfield, Mo.) had quite a day against Oklahoma. Silver scored three of Missouri's eight runs on the day, notched two RBI and hit a game one, two run homer, her first of the Big 12 season.
Starting her second game of the day, junior pitcher Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) allowed four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings. Bruck entered the contest with an 0.88 ERA and held the Sooners to only one run in Missouri's game one victory. Bruck is now 6-1 in league play and 14-5 overall.
Missouri will travel to Kansas Wednesday, April 18, for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. (CT) at Arrocha Ballpark in Lawrence, Kan. The first of back-to-back games against the Jayhawks will serve as a make up after rain postponed last Wednesday's meeting in Columbia, Mo.
