More than half way through our season, the Tiger gymnasts are picking up speed. This past weekend we had a meet against Centenary where we scored a season high of 195.325. The meet attendance wasn't as high as it was for the past weekend for the Beauty and the Beast meet but we made the best out of the situation. Hopefully the team's marketing efforts at the men's basketball game Tuesday night will pay off.
We handed out flyers for our upcoming Cat Classic meet and we also got to walk out onto the court (and flip) during a timeout to promote our meet. All I have to say is that it would be amazing to get the loyal basketball and football fans to come to our meets. The fans at those games can get especially crazy and Tuesday night's win over Oklahoma was proof.
Anyway, back to our meet against Centenary. We started off with vault our team scored a 48.975, a season high and a great performance. The bar lineup had several sound, high scoring routines as well as our beam lineup.
There were a couple slipups but everyone has been working extremely hard in the gym this week to prevent them from happening again. I've also seen great effort out of some of the girls that have been injured and are trying to work their way back into the lineup. It's easy to tell that adversity definitely does not put our team on the sidelines, it makes us stronger.
And finally, we ended our meet against Centenary with an excellent performance on the floor. The girls really looked like they were having fun out there, ending the meet with a strong set of routines, a smile and a 49.125.
As the honorary coach of the night (my pharmacology teacher from last semester) Dr. Marilyn James-Kracke commented, last Friday was another show of "mind over body at its best."
I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who came to cheer us on and for all those interested it would be great to see you this weekend at the Cat Classic! It should be two nights of fun, flipping and good competition, so come out and see us!
Go Tigers!
