Columbia, Mo. - The 18th-ranked University of Missouri women's soccer team (12-6-0, 6-4-0 Big 12) has earned the No. 4 seed at the Big 12 Championship and will play the No. 5 seed, Texas Tech (7-7-2, 5-4-1 Big 12) Wednesday (Nov. 7) at 1:30 p.m. in San Antonio.
The Tigers dropped from second place in the league to a tie for third after their loss to Kansas Friday (Nov. 2) in Lawrence. Mizzou took a 1-0 lead into the 71st minute, but Kansas scored on their only two corner kicks in the game, in the 71st and 74th minutes, to take the 2-1 win. The Tigers and Jayhawks are tied for third with 18 points, but because KU won Friday's meeting, they earn the No. 3 seed for the Championship, while Mizzou falls to the No. 4 seed for tournament seeding purposes.
Mizzou's third place finish in the conference tied their best regular season conference finish ever. The 1999 team also finished third, as they went 6-3-1 in the league.
In the regular season, The Tigers defeated Texas Tech, 2-0, Oct. 5 in Lubbock. In that game, Tiger forwards Michelle Collins and Alysha Bonnick each scored a goal, and goalkeeper Mallory Forst saved nine shots on goal for one of her three shutouts on the season.
The Tigers have won six of the last eight, and hold an 8-5 lead all-time against the Red Raiders.
