The sixth-ranked University of Missouri women's soccer team (9-2-0, 3-0-0 Big 12) defeated the Texas Tech University Red Raiders (3-5-1, 1-2-0 Big 12), 2-0, Friday (Oct. 5) in Lubbock, Texas. Tiger sophomore forward Michelle Collins scored the first Mizzou goal, her eighth of the season. Mizzou freshman forward Alysha Bonnick kicked the second in, also her eighth of the season. Mizzou goalkeeper Mallory Forst earned her fifth win and second shutout on the year, as the Tigers started Big 12 play 3-0.
The game started out relatively even, with both teams getting early shots on goal. In the 11th minute, Mizzou midfielder Mo Redmond took the first shot on goal for the Tigers, which was saved by Texas Tech goalkeeper Tina Rincon. Redmond would take another on goal minutes later that was saved by Rincon.
Texas Tech would also get an early shot on goal, but Tigers got on the board first, in the 21st minute, as Mizzou junior midfielder Mo Redmond passed the ball to Collins who found the kicked a line drive past Texas Tech goalkeeper Tina Rincon to the opposite side of the net for her eighth goal of the season. It turned out to be the game-winning goal for the Tigers, who would not give up a Red Raider score all night. The goal was Collins' second game-winner of the season, and it was Redmond's third game-winning assist on the year. Her total ties her for fourth on Mizzou's all-time season high list.
The Tigers and Red Raiders had an even half after the goal, with each team getting off five shots.
Texas Tech had the first good chance in the second half, in the 67th minute, when Shannon Sims served a corner kick into the box, where Priscilla Esquivel gathered it and kicked it towards the goal. Forst was not in the picture, but defender Lindsay McCoy kicked it away to preserve the 1-0 Tiger lead.
About two minutes later, in the 70th minute, Mizzou scored their second goal of the night, as Mizzou midfielder Janelle Cordia was credited with an assist on Bonnick's eighth goal of the season. Her total is the most by a Tiger freshman since Jennifer Nobis scored eight in 2002. Bonnick is one away from Melissa Peabody's total of nine scored in her freshman season (2001).
The Red Raiders would get a couple of good chances as the clock ticked away. In the 73rd minute, Forst saved an Esquivel penalty kick. She made two more crucial saves down the stretch to secure her sixth career shutout. Forst made a career high ten saves on the night.
TEAM NOTES:
The 2007 Tigers tied the program record for road wins in a season, with four. Both the 1999 and 2004 teams won four road games.
MU has now scored 35 goals this season, already two more than the 33 they scored all of last year.
MU has outscored opponents 24-8 after halftime
The Tigers have already won more conference games (3) this season, than last (2).
MU leads the all-time series against Texas Tech, 8-5, and Mizzou has won six of the last eight meetings.
AROUND THE CONFERENCE:
Mizzou now leads the Big 12 with nine points. Iowa State tied No. 3 Texas, 1-1, in Ames. The Cyclones, who were picked to finish last in the conference, sit in second with seven points. Last night (Oct. 4) No. 6 Texas A&M defeated No. 22 Oklahoma State, 2-1, to earn their second conference win of the season. Colorado, who lost to Texas Tech in their first match of the year, defeated Nebraska tonight (Oct. 5) to earn their first conference win.

The Tigers will not play Sunday, their first, and only Sunday off all season. They will get back to conference action in Walton Stadium next Friday (Oct. 12) when they face Oklahoma at 6:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 14) the Tigers will play No. 22 Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.
