Black Stays Alive with Game Three Victory

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Mizzou Black team scored 11 runs over the final three innings of game three of the 2007 Fall World Series, forcing a game four with a 12-3 win on Sunday. Junior Ryan Lollis homered twice and drove in four for the Black squad.

The first run of game came in the bottom of the third inning as freshman Rex Myer singled for the Gold team, stole second and then scored on a single by senior Kurt Calvert.

Black quickly tied the game at one as Lollis led off the top of the fourth inning with a home run. It was the first run of the Fall World Series for the Black squad.

Senior Jacob Priday gave the lead back to Gold with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gold added another run in the sixth as senior Dan Pietroburgo doubled to drive in junior Steve Gray, giving Gold a 3-1 lead.

Black rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take its first lead of the series. Freshman Austin Holt delivered a two-out single to drive in two runs and Lollis followed with his second homer of the day, a two-run shot to give Black a 5-3 lead.

Mizzou Black followed with another four-run inning in the eighth to stretch the lead to 9-3. It added three more runs in the top of the ninth coming on a three-run home run by freshman Jonah Schmidt.

Junior Aaron Crow allowed just one run on three hits in 5.2 innings pitched. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Junior Ian Berger also allowed just one run on three hits and struck out three, pitching 5.1 innings for the Gold team. Both Crow and Berger picked up no decisions.

The fourth game of the Fall World Series is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday at Taylor Stadium. If a fifth game is necessary, it will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
