Fall World Series Opens on Thursday

Oct. 17, 2007

The Mizzou baseball team's annual Fall World Series will get underway on Thursday at Taylor Stadium. The best-of-five intersquad series will continue through the weekend and, if necessary, into next week. All games are free to the public.

The first two games of the series will be played at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday nights. After an off day on Saturday, the series will resume at Noon on Sunday. If games four and five are necessary, they will be played at 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.

The Tigers are coming off a 42-18 campaign last spring which concluded with Missouri hosting an NCAA Regional for the first time in school history. Last year's team tied a school record for most wins in a season (42) and had its best-ever finish in the Big 12 Conference, placing second. It was the best league finish since taking second in the Big Eight Conference in 1996.

Missouri returns six position starters and eight total pitchers from the 2006-07 team. Among those returning are 2007 freshman All-American and Big 12 Freshman of the Year Trevor Coleman and All-Big 12 Conference first teamers Aaron Crow and Jacob Priday. All-Conference Honorable Mention honorees Rick Zagone, Kyle Mach and Kyle Gibson are also back for Missouri.

The 2008 season will open on Feb. 22. The complete schedule will be finali zed and released soon.
