MINNEAPOLIS - Missouri sophomore diver Kendra Melnychuk missed out on advancing to the finals portion of the 3-meter competition at the NCAA Championships Friday by less than ten points.

Melnychuk finished with a score of 300.20, just 9.9 behind the 16th-place spot. The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native stood in 14th halfway through the competition but slipped to 22nd following the fourth rotation before finishing in 23rd.

On Saturday she will participate in the platform competition - her strongest height and the one she qualified for at the NCAA Zones.

Missouri's other competitor this weekend, sophomore Jill Granger finished the 400 IM in 4:24.17 and did not advance to Friday's finals. She did close the race strong with a final 50-yard split of 29.06.

Like Melnychuk, Granger will participate in her strongest event on Saturday - the 1650 freestyle. Her seed time of 16:24.69 is the 19th-fastest among the 43 entries.

The diving will begin at 1 p.m., while the 1650 free is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
