Tigers Host Shockers in Wednesday Doubleheader

Columbia, Mo. - Missouri's Wednesday doubleheader against Wichita State is the Tiger's first series played on University Field this season. With temperatures in the 50's and a dry surface to play on Missouri will host the Shockers beginning at 2 p.m. (CT). This marks the third meeting of the season between the two teams and Missouri owns the 2-0 advantage. The two softball programs last met in the Championship game of the Clarion Inn Lady'Back Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Feb. 25, where Missouri walked away with the 10-7 win and tournament title. Senior Leanne Bowers (Arnold, Mo.) junior Jen Bruck (St. Peters, Mo.) and freshman Julie Silver (Chesterfield, Mo.) all recorded above a .600 batting average against the Shockers. Bruck went 3-for-5 against Wichita State, crushing two home runs and scoring five runs.

In the circle, freshman Alaina Jacobson (Crocker, Mo.) and Bruck were credited with one win each over the Shockers. Jacobson held Wichita State to a .222 batting average while Bruck struck out six of the batters she faced.

Missouri is 13-2 all-time against Wichita State and enters the doubleheader with a 14-9 record. Coming off of a three-game loss to second-ranked Arizona, Missouri is looking to rebound before heading back to Arizona for the Big 12/Pac 10 Showdown beginning Friday, March 9 at 3:30 p.m. (CT) against Washington.

Wichita State, 8-13 on the season, won its last game, March 4 against Temple, 9-2. Playing at the Residence Inn Tournament in Norman, Okla., the Shockers finished with a 2-2 record dropping both games to sixth-ranked Oklahoma, 4-0.
