Women's Tennis Defeats Iowa State 4-3

Ames, Iowa - The University of Missouri women's team defeated Iowa State, 4-3, to earn its first Big 12 victory. With the win, the Tigers improve their overall record to 8-9 overall and 1-8 in the Big 12.
After the victory, Tiger Head Coach Blake Starkey was pleased with his team.
"We have been getting close, and it is nice to finally get a conference win."
Leading the Tigers at the No. 1 singles position, Tiger junior Yelena Olshanskaya defeated Iowa State's Jill Palen, 7-5, 6-0. At No. 3 Missouri's Erika Josbena earned a two set victory, defeating Iowa State's Danielle Uscinski, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 4, Tiger junior Amanda Pratzel earned her 13th victory of the season, defeating ISU's Caitlin Loprinzi, 6-4, 6-3. Tiger sophomore Chrissy Svetlic earned her fourth straight victory, defeating Eve Soriano, 7-6(7-0), 4-6, 6-0.
At No. 2 singles, Columbia native Kara Hickey defeated Missouri's Lubica Nadasska in three sets, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2.
Coach Starkey congratulated Hickey after the match.
"My hats off to her, she played really well today."
In the No. 5 singles match, Missouri's Val Dandik fell to Chrissy Derouin, 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles action, Missouri lost all three matches. At No. 1 doubles, the Tiger duo of Olshanskaya and Svetlic fell to ISU's Palen and Soriano, 8-4. The Tiger teams of Josbena and Pratzel and Bellis and Nadasska lost their matches at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
The Tigers will return to Columbia to face Memphis and Saint Louis on Sunday. The Memphis match is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. with the Saint Louis match to follow.
