The Missouri wrestling squad placed three Tiger wrestlers on the Academic All-Big 12 team for their accomplishments on the mat and in the classroom. The brother tandem of sophomore Tyler McCormick (Leawood, Kan.) and senior Chris McCormick (Leawood, Kan.) were named to the first team, while junior Ben Askren (Hartland, Wis.) was named a member of the second team.
Tyler McCormick achieved a 4.0 grade-point average, the only grappler among 16 Big 12 wrestlers to post a perfect showing in the classroom. McCormick, a business major, was named to the first team for the second straight year. Chris McCormick, a graduate student pursuing an MBA in business management, received the first nomination of his career in a Tiger's singlet. Askren received Academic All-Big 12 honors for the third consecutive year, after being named to the first team as a freshman and sophomore.
To qualify for Academic All-Big 12 honors a wrestler must earn a 3.0 grade-point average for the previous two semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team's scheduled contests. First-team members have attained a 3.20 GPA or better and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
The No. 7 Missouri wrestling team travels to Ames, Iowa, this weekend to compete in the 10th annual Big 12 Championships. The opening session will begin at 11 a.m. CST in the Hilton Coliseum, with finals taking place at 7 p.m. CST.
