Mizzou Volleyball Selected for Seventh-Straight NCAA Tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo.--The Missouri volleyball team (17-12) learned Sunday of their selection into the 2006 64-team NCAA Tournament field as an at-large bid. Mizzou will play No. 22 (AVCA rank) Santa Clara (20-7), Friday, in the first round, a rematch from a earlier in the year where the Tigers fell in Austin in four to the Broncos. The Tigers will play opening rounds in Palo Alto, Calif., and if advancing to the second-round will play host and second-seeded Stanford or Sacramento State.

Mizzou lost in four games to Santa Clara on September 7 in Austin, Texas, 30-24, 18-30, 20-30, 24-30. In was the teams' first meeting.

 

Missouri is 0-1 against Stanford all-time, losing to the then-No. 3 Cardinal in a sweep. The Tigers are 5-7 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, advancing past the second round for the first time in school history in 2005, reaching the regional finals after defeating Hawaii in the Penn State regional semifinal.

 

The Tigers will travel to California for the second time in an NCAA Tournament. In 2003, the current seniors' freshman season, Mizzou lost in the first round to UC-Irvine in Los Angeles. This will be the squad's first-ever trip to Palo Alto.

Tickets for the NCAA first and second rounds at Stanford will go on sale Monday, Nov. 27, at 9 a.m. Two-day passes can be purchased at the Stanford Ticket Office, online at gostanford.com or by calling 1-800-STANFORD. Single day passes will be available beginning Friday, December 1. Ticket prices are as follows:
