COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - The Mizzou softball team moved to 2-0 on the fall season with a 5-0 win over Butler County Community College on Saturday at University Field. Tiger junior Sara Simons drove in three of MU's five runs and scored another in the victory.
Simons put the Tigers on the board with a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the first inning on a hit that fell just inside the first base line to drive in senior Alli Kennewell and junior Jen Bruck. Simons again drove in Kennewell with the game's third run on a single in the bottom of the third inning.
Mizzou extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth inning as junior Micaela Minner scored when sophomore Andee Allen reached safely on an error by the BCCC shortstop.
The final run came in the seventh inning as Simons scored on a ground out by freshman Michaele Vock.
Bruck started the game in the circle for MU, allowing just three hits in four scoreless innings, striking out three. Freshman Jana Hainey pitched three innings in relief and struck out five, including striking out the side in the sixth inning.
Missouri will conclude its fall schedule Saturday, Oct. 14, hosting Johnson County Community College at University Field. The game time for the Tigers and JCCC contest will be announced later this week.
