HENDERSON, Nev. - - Mizzou is tied for seventh place with UCLA after carding a round of 297 on Monday in the first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate at the Anthem Country Club in Henderson, Nev., outside of Las Vegas. A trio of Tigers turned in rounds of two-over-par 74 to lead MU on day one of play.
Senior Stephanie Wavro, junior Madde Augustsson and sophomore Chelsea Schriewer are among those tied for 27th place after turning in rounds of 74 on Monday. Twenty-seven golfers turned in rounds of 74 on Monday and are five shots behind the tournament lead of three-under 69.
Wavro made four birdies on her first nine holes, including a stretch of three-straight, on her way to a two-under 33 on the first nine, before struggling to a 41 on the second nine. Augustsson finished her round with two birdies in the final three holes and matched her 37 on the front nine with a 37 on the backside.
Sophomore Ellen Hoeper made seven-straight pars to open her round before three-straight bogies, but finished with a birdie on her final hole for an opening round 75 which places her in a tie for 39th place. Freshman Julia Potter birdied her first and last holes on her way to an opening round 76 on Monday.
Arizona State leads the tournament with a 292 on day one of play in Las Vegas. The second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate will be played on Tuesday with the final round to follow on Wednesday.
